Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Since it’s the time to talk about more anime for the catalog event, I decided to pick an anime that is in my top 3 which is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I watched this anime very early on in my experience and I have yet to see an anime that is as good as this that hit such a cord in me, that I hold it to very deeply in my core.
Now, Gurren Lagann is a mecha anime so when people see that they are immediately put off by it as a lot of the genre has some mediocre clones of Gundam but this anime is not like those. In fact, it topples a lot of the Gundam series, sorry die-hard fans of Gundam. Now to be more coherent, I will shorten this anime name to TTGL, fyi so you know. TTGL is about a kid called Simon who finds a robot and just so happens to turn into a mech, Simon and friends go on an epic adventure through the wasteland filled with pure badass-ness fights with just a drill. To pierce the heavens, is the motto of this anime and it shows very well as they came from nothing and aim not just to the sky but also to heaven. Now this statement is very deep in two ways, this anime pierce your expectations one after another, when you think you get where it’s going it goes to another tier of greatness and pure action. Then when they get to the heights of what they can do on earth they go space and beat interdimensional beings and god himself which is crazy to witness and nothing but utter hype watching this action packed series from the amazing (future staff) studio of Trigger.
Absurdity is what this anime should be called because it’s so absurd how outstanding this anime is. Watching this throughout just was immensely euphoric from how excited it made that I felt like a little kid again watching power rangers for the first time. This anime is true 1 of 1, graded 10 of anime if it were a card game as this anime is truly worth a million bucks to experience for the first time and if you didn’t like maybe my little pony is more up to your speed because this is the salty lagoon where real intellectuals of the anime game go to (pls don’t hate I love applejack) This anime you don’t need to question why or how, you just enjoy it because that’s ultimately what life is all about and enjoyment is a hundred percent what I had when I watched this. Topped with the stunning visuals in the fight scenes, it was like Micheal Bay and Christopher Nolan could animate and make an anime then this is what this anime is all about as it’s all flashy and also beautiful.
If you love Kill la Kill, you’ll love this anime as it’s in the same artstyle as that but the reason why you should watch this, runs deeper than that not only is about epic-ness but also about the bonds we make along the way. As it builds the story of a boy becoming a man with Simon, Kamina being the leader of the group and over confident chad he is, he does it because of Simon and is the role model for him so when he is no longer around he can take over his place. This anime hits deep because its characters actually have personality and you are attached to them even though this is a lighthearted action parody of Gundam but makes its own individuality through the sheer aptitude of TRIGGER studio staff that worked on this. I don't know how many brain cells it took to come up with this plot and perfect as soundly as they did because they struck a flow state that was comparable to Goku hitting ultra instinct, as the people who made this are the Goku of anime production. There’s not enough words on this planet that could explain to you how great it is without you seeing it yourself. This anime is a masterpiece even with a time skip which is the unwritten rule of bad anime as a bad time skip can completely fluff up your show but this anime perfects it and after it goes even crazier which ends the anime with a banger and minds get blown.
Thanks for Reading!!
