Magnificence of Manga Artwork

What Makes Manga Art so Great?

What makes manga art so great? Manga is a medium that doesn’t get much love in the otaku community compared to anime, especially blogs about manga are a rarity on aa; so I decide to make some appreciation for manga in this blog. Manga is amazing, it's like comic books but 100 times better. It can come in a million forms, not one manga is the same which is why it so interesting. Unlike novels manga has imagery so you don’t have to read that much which is why anyone can get into reading manga because sometimes I would find myself reading for hours at a time and didn’t even realise how long I had been reading.

It’s a much better alternative to anime as sometimes you might not have enough time to invest hours into watching a show but if you read the manga it will take a portion of the time and if you have bad internet then watching anime is hell but you can read manga with bad connection or takes less space to download as opposed to anime. Most manga art is usually monochrome with an exception of some panels each volume being in colour or covers because manga doesn’t really need colour to be effective.

Advantages of Manga Art

Comparing to anime what are the advantages of manga artwork? Well manga is easier to translate than anime as there is not as many words as anime because of this manga is in way more languages so more people can read them and even people that are deaf can enjoy manga as there is no sound of course which is why manga tops anime. Sometimes anime can have filler, bad production, bad voice actor but with manga is coming straight from the author the way it was intended to be so manga can be way better than anime most of the time and take a small portion of the time it takes to finish an anime. Manga even has the sounds effect of things in onomatopoeia which comes in three forms; Giseigo which represents animals and people like kyaa (ahh) or wanwan (dog) or nyaa (cat) then Giongo which imitates sounds like zaazaa (rain) or baki (crack) next Gitaigo which mimics a feeling or visual like niyaniaya (smiling ironically) jiiii (staring) guruguru (dizzy) or a famous one zuuuuunnn (which is someone who is bummed out)

A big advantage of manga is it uses onomatopoeia for sounds and even sounds that don’t exist but sounds for feeling which is amazing and so much that anime adopted some of these like jiiii or zuuuunn. Another one is that in manga some are hard to translate as it there might not be a direct translation, so you have translator notes that explain it. It happens in anime too but in anime you have to pause or might even miss it whereas in manga it’s easier to understand also some manga can’t be translated or might not even work as an anime like oyasumi punpun because the character doesn’t talk and could fail as an anime. Side note: I just found out that pikachu’s name comes from this onomatopoeia "pika" meaning flash and "chu" mean a sound of a mouse which is clever.

Berserk

Now for the most notable artworks in manga that I would like to talk about. First off is one of the best artwork in anime goes to berserk as it is the most consistently detailed manga with most of the art being very gritty and scary that it's very cool to look at with the overall theme being guts being extremely badass with him fighting these disgusting and disturbing monsters that are massively creepy that are out of this world, something that could come from hell and seeing these drawn is amazing as most of the art is super fine, dark and well done.

Especially with the double panels that when I brought my berserk manga it was even better in person which is another thing I love about manga is you can buy physical copies of the books and have it in your hands the feel of the manga is something that is very unique to manga and elevates the reading experience if you have an in real life copy of the manga. Berserk art is the best in my opinion as it never fails to be amazing every monster creeps me out in a good way as I love creepy stuff and a lot of material that I would love to have as a tattoo or inspiration for one.

Junji Ito

One of the best horror mangaka’s in the industry has to be hands down Junji Ito, I loved his work ever since I read my first manga from him “Uzumaki” than ever since then I was obsessed with his stuff, what’s so great about him is that this dude can make something you never thought to be scary horrifying and disgusting even something as meaningless as spirals. For example; you know when your hair start curling well in Uzumaki he made that into horror story and elevated it so much that it made me spooked out now when I get a curl in my hair because you could end up like Kirie. He is a pioneer of the body horror genre, the imagery he uses for it will creep you out so much that some of the stuff might violate amino guidelines and Nikki would smite me >.< Ito transform the human body into some really disturbing things but also adds a mystery element to it that will scare you but also want you leaving more. Junji ito style is one of the most unique styles of artwork in manga, it’s very eerie, edgy and dark that makes him a genius artist that you should definitely check out.

The Future

Now that manga is becoming more global the influence of it will spread to western cultures that it might even inspire a whole generation of comic industry and might even overtake Marvel and DC, I hope that one day it will become more widespread and more available in local libraries as libraries are dying with the new age of technology and the internet that if they adopt manga in their works and market it right then reading might actually become popular to kids. Even people of all ages, manga promotes healthy brain activity so it will be great for everyone and there is a lot of demand around the world for more manga to be translated and published by western society because some manga unfortunately take a very long time to be translated or don’t even get translated which is sad, which is why it's up to us to bring this to light, this has been your boi Coma.

Thanks for reading
