Three Themes

This blog is kind of a miscellaneous blog; what I'm trying to say is that it's a 3 mini blogs in one but each one has a theme related. I hope you enjoy this blog and have fun.

Subgenre Theme - Bodyhorror

Body Horror or biological horror is subgenre of horror involves showing of graphic psychologically disturbing images of the human body, for example, mutations, disease, mutilation or unnatural movement of the body. Some examples are; in Akira the most prolific scene at the end that involves Tetsuo, losing control because of his newfound physic ability and mutates into a human version of a Eldritch Abomination (A horrific monster, often of otherworldly origin, that brings terror and breaks sanity of thing that is around it) The manga makes it much worse by making it more detailed which is only a portion of terror that the manga brings.

Attack on titan is another prime example of body horror as the titans are deformed gender-less naked giant humans that when they lose a limp or badly damage their heal factor makes them unstoppable. Another is in a movie called Barefoot Gen which is a film about Hiroshima which you could imagine why this is here. Berserk loves Body Horror as well.

Junji Ito basically revolutionised body horror with his many works like "Uzumaki: Spiral Into Horror" where there is a epidemic spreading around the protagonist where people are turning into spirals or get demolished by the spirals, it starts as just having extremely curly hair then progresses to something more sinister and the way Junji Ito does this makes him a pioneer of horror. So remember if your hair is slightly curly one day then watch out

This subgenre is very cool when done right, like Junji Ito has a normal story of some weird occurrences then one day out of the blue it turns into something disturbing this type of shock horror makes very unique if you a lover of disturbing and edgy things like myself

A Manga Theme - Gothic

Alice in Murderland is a twisted take on the most well known work of literature Alice in wonderland. Alice, a high school girl actually named Stella, the family throws a tea party; a family tradition. Her family lives in a mansion in a forest, the whole family dressed up as a cult fairy-tale like her younger sister is little red riding hood and her mother is the Queen from Alice in wonderland and her father is The Mad Hatter. In this "Tea Party" all the children have to fight to the death for heir to the Kuonji estate. To stop them from refusing to not to take part in the Tea Party battle royale the Queen puts something in the tea that of you don't drink at least once a month you'll die.

After that the parents set off a trap door pulling everyone into a different world, there's a constant metaphor of Alice falling down a very deep well from all the hardships she has to go through, when Stella snaps she transforms into a blond hair and blue eyed Alice a ruthless killing machine. It has aspects of understanding the importance of family ties between Zeno and Stella. The manga is highly reminiscent of shoujo art styles.

The manga is highly interesting with all the story that you would want to find out but like what is the secret behind the Kuonji Family? Why does Stella turn into a killing machine, is it because of the tea or the family? And I was really intrigued by how they would adapt Alice in wonderland in this gothic horror manga. Stella goes further down the rabbit hole in this manga. All the metaphors from the fairytale and how they are conveyed in this manga is really cool.

Hack://sign Ost -
Theme - Insanity

The first volume on the ost is very spacey sounding that could be taken as the viewer is being lost as the composition has a lot of random electronic sounds almost messing with your head to feel what the mc feels as he is being vulnerable to all the threats that surround him. The ost has a lot of distortion synthetic sounds almost sounding experimental at times, the sounds are sometimes all over the place when behind a basic beat to set the tone of the series. At times it has some bassy drum sounding synths or just drums that are kind of fast making it feel very energised for the action scenes or uses guitar at times with synths to do this as well.

On volume 2 of ost which some elongated singing over the random synthetic electronics that this ost likes to use and some synths that almost sound Alien or like chimes at certain points making it feel very spooky, this volume actually has a guitar composition in the mix that has a very poppy melodic feel to it sounding almost happy; I'm not going to rewatch just to tell you what scene they used this for but I'd guess it was for happy scene (track 13). Track 14 does the same as well but this song almost sounds like surf pop which is kind of surprising for this type of anime (track 14) At the sad moments in this anime or emotionally as some people would say it has a beautifully calming and emotion filled composition which uses this piano piece in a minor chord with stringed instruments to set this tone, I don't why but I tend to like these type of melancholy music. (Track 15)
