How Not To Start an Isekai

Hello this my thoughts of Shield Hero so far (first 6 episodes)

First off this is just my opinion and before you think I’m hating on this show, it’s just my devil’s advocate on the anime; the title does have some truth in my opinion and I just did it for clickbait as the anime is popping off. I think this anime it has potential to be a great Isekai anime if it didn’t have theses problems that most anime in the genre have which is the execution mainly because the source material is from light novels, I heard the light novels for Sword Art Online are actually pretty good and other novels for the genre. Light Novels have a lot of words and pages

Light novels that actually make waves in the anime community it's usually because the authors writing them have experience in writing and said people writing them understand how to make an intricate storytelling that actually makes sense but when studios have been made to make an animation based on these pages of words… let’s say it gets lost in translation per se; what I mean by this is that these novels are thousands of words long and the studios have to fit all this in one season or on rare occasions two seasons and of course because of this the anime loses a lot of continuity or because of having no imagery to go off of the studio completely misses the mark on intentions of the novel because of the animation.

Now this show Shield Hero, I was actually excited that an Isekai anime was actually going to be good because I saw the ratings were really high but unfortunately when I actually saw the episodes that were out (which at this moment in time is 6 episodes, if you’re reading this in the future just letting you know this about the first 6 episodes so if does turn around then keep that advised and if it does I might do a follow up blog) Firstly, before I say why I don’t think it deserves all the praise, I’ll first off say what I liked about The Rising Of The Shield Hero; I liked how it has introduced us to this stunning RPG-esque realm or world, it does a good job on world building even though there isn’t much in the world it does well to set the theme of the world.

The idea of being the underdog that isn’t overpowered is unheard of in this genre of anime so it was surprising to see it like a miracle, so it gets brownie points from me for using it and not making the protagonist overpowered out of the gate but that as much praise I can give it as I can’t really critique the underdog concept in it as its still in its early stages. Also, the fight scenes in this anime which is one fight; I enjoyed how the mechanics of the classes worked in a contest of fighting skill, I would say at the moment he is at a disadvantage that he is underpowered too much even for a support which I feel puts the anime disadvantage as majority of the scenes will be uneventful at the start when he weak.

On to the main part of the blog which is why I didn’t enjoy shield hero, most of the problems I have with the anime comes down to the narration in the show, the first episode was very hard to watch as the ploy of having all this hate on someone who is not an attacking class just for him to grow more from it gets rather annoying to bare after the first couple times it happens. One thing I have to mention some people put out an argument that is all for a reason then refer to the manga the thing is I’m not talking about the manga I’m talking about the anime, when a show is very hyped up people tend to take out their brains and rate it high just because of the hype and that’s all good if he is hated but for this work effectively it has been done in a way which actually makes sense and not just unnecessary hate.

Continuing on from this Shield Hero forgets that it is a RPG type show as in RPG’s there are things called classes, in this one I’d say there is 4 classes ofc because of the four people who were summoned; archer, lancer, swordsman and shield and I would compare shield in real RPG games as a support so you’d think that he’d be a very important asset to the squad as you need a support class most of the time so that’s why the hate is unnecessary. I can see why the shield would be hated by the king as he probably has ulterior motives behind but for the other heroes to hate when after it shown that they are very knowledgeable in RPG genre is baffling to me and makes me facepalm.

There is also another problem I have with the narration is more of the storytelling for example; the characters in the anime flip flop views when it’s convenient for story, when its shown that the Shield Hero is being framed and sort of martyrize his wellbeing for being different after this happening for so long the heroes finally realise this after it being exaggerated from dramatically scenes so much for them to step in and finally get it even though it happen before but didn’t do it then

I guess my problem with this is horrifically stupid characters which are very annoying. Its ok for characters to change opinions that’s ok but it to be done so poorly like one second there against him and the next they’re not, with character development there’s supposed to be more of a realism to it they don’t even show any monologue or the gradual change to get there it's just spontaneously sudden which makes me even more agitated with this anime. It's not just the side characters but also the main character I dislike as well, he can be very much exaggerate his situation way too much which comes across as whiny because he uses this mentality of why has the world forsaken me when his situation is not bad and just to be compared to something like playground bullying; he has no reason to stay in the world he just go back and they can’t even kill him or they will die from the apocalypse as well.

The cherry on top is that they also made the raccoon loli grow up which I get why they did that, but she was literally a child for only 3 episodes which also put the nail in the coffin as they could keep her a child for at least more than 2 and a half. I don't understand why this show is getting so much praise when it has so many flaws and problems. This is the end of my blog as to why I think this show overrated.

Thank you for reading
