Green in Anime

In this blog I will be going over the psychological meanings of a certain colour called green and relating it to green haired anime characters that fit the description of that meaning and explaining why they fit perfectly as that side of the green connotations.

Poison as Hikage
From - Senran Kagura

Hikage is a apathetic emotionless 17 year old. She can be described as a snake, in many many ways she can be seen as poisonous; a sharp tongue that cuts deep by being very frank about things talking about things the way she sees them making her very savage. Not to mention she has a snake tattoo on her hip so making her poison was a obvious choice and there not much green haired characters to fit this one except Hikage

Her Guardian being a snake really represent her on the battlefield, being a bloodthirsty swift berserker when she gets deep into battle, using her knifes to cut deep like poison and her fighting style is very machine like almost as if it has a mind of its like poison it's independent and does its own thing

Youth/Immortality as C.C
From - Code Geass

Green is the most associated with youth in a lot of English speaking countries and what better to represent youth than C.C who is forever young, she never ages and heals from any wounds so she is always young like a green cheese she is unaged forever young, green is most likely associated with youth as it also can mean growth which young things tend to do but the only thing C.C is growing is her love for pizza.

Green is also associated with immortality according to my research the only evidence I have for this was a book called "Being A Green Mother" which has the Greek goddess Gaea the deity of nature and C.C also fits the description of a immortal goddess looking upon the nature of war and a Coup d'état, in the book the deity has to marry Satan could that be Lelouch, hmmm; BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY AN ANIME THEORY!

Social Status as Nene Kinokuni
From - Shokugeki no Souma

Green is most oftentimes symbolised with social status like the top 1% which dates back to the 17th Century where higher member of society like bankers, merchants would wear a green tailcoat and when thinking of a character that thinks of themselves on a higher hieracy that has green hair; Nene comes to mind. She is a Elite Ten member who acts like she is on a pedestal from everyone who isn't on her level.

Nene comes from a prestigious family which gave her success, all she has known is her social status from her rigorous training throughout all her life to perfect her craft to get to her pedestal and that is why she had to be in this list and also the fact that she is voiced by Kana Hanazawa, one of my favourites Seiyuu's

Dragons as Eto Yoshimura
From - Tokyo Ghoul

Chinese dragons and Medieval dragons are often green that are benevolent, powerful and full of strength. In Tokyo Ghoul there are many legends about the One-Eyed Owl just like Chinese dragon is a legend so is Sen Takatsuki or Eto Yoshimura she is very omnipotent in many eyes of lower ghouls making her very similar to this

Dragons have a lot of fortune-telling in eyes of legends, stories and literature just like Shen Long from the Dragon Ball franchise and Sen has a very sharp intuition about feelings of people but unlike dragons she is a sadistic version maybe the untold story or reality of dragons. Expanding of her fortune-telling abilities she wants to create a better society for her kind where there not persecuted and doesn't care what she sacrifices to get it

Calmness/Harmony as Hikari Kohinata!
From - Amanchu!

Surveys show that green is calming to eye as it's in the middle of red and blue because the eye is most sensitive to green for being the colour of neutrality. This relates to Hikari as Amanchu is very calm and relaxing anime; I found this interpretation of green to fit her the best as she is always hyperactive but when she sees beautiful natural sight she is at her calmest and what do nature most have? Yes that's right, greenery.

Amanchu! being mainly a story about scuba diving there's a lot of sense of the calmness of the sea which green is also relate to calmness in a different sense which relate. Another point is that Hikari could represent harmony as in 2009 study by French psychologist Heller Eva called "psychologie de la coleur" she states that the colours Blue and Green together symbolise harmony and balance, blue being the sea and green being Hikari. To support this correlation Hikari is even in her element when she is the sea and can't live without it so it fits her perfectly

Conclusion

Do you think that certain hair colour in Japanese Animation possess certain traits, meanings or characteristics or is it just a whim of a random Mangaka just doing it willy nilly but even if it that's the case, I'll always interpret it in deep meaningful way, tell me what you think about characteristics and hair colour
